Have you heard of Universal Healthcare? Do you know what it is? Essentially, it is government run healthcare. The government would pay for it, so it would be free! They would take care of you! Sounds great, right? But, don't be fooled. Think about this... someone important to you is diagnosed with cancer and the cure is $10,000. "Is their life really worth $10,000 dollars?", some government bureaucrat could say. "I'm sorry, I can't give them the treatment." It could take a year or a week, but in the end, they would die. Think about that for a second and let it sink in. They would die all because a government bureaucrat said they were not worth the money.
Don't think they wouldn't ration healthcare because in places like Canada or Great Britain where they have Universal Healthcare, they do. If you're too old, you don't get a kidney transplant or heart surgery. They tell you to go home and enjoy the rest of your life. There are huge waits so a lot of people don't live long enough to get treatment. If you want proof, click here.
Right now, Congress in trying to pass a healthcare bill. It would cut Medicaid and Medicare (two government run insurance companies), but it would make it so that the government would control health insurance and it would be mandatory for you to have it. If they control health insurance, they, in essence, control healthcare. It would not be free. Taxpayers would pick up the slack.
One thing I've noticed about Congress is that they have the tendency to pass bills without reading them. Contact your Senators and a Representative and give them your opinion before they pass the 1000+ page bill without reding it. For more information, click here.
